Students have been asked to undertake a series of tasks over the summer break on Code Academy in preparation for this first unit.They will be tested on this. In this unit students will learn advanced Python and develop their skills plugging any gaps in their knowledge.Topics will be tailored to the group’s needs. In this unit students will work on their Python Set Assignment for the EDUCAS Examination board.  They will also begin learning the Theory material for the written exam at the end of year 11.It will involve RAM, ROM, Installation of software, Networking Topology, Binary, Flow Chart Programming Debugging etc. In this unit students will continue with Theory in preparation for the final examination in 12 months’ time.  It will involve RAM, ROM, Installation of software, Networking Topology, Binary, Flow Chart Programming Debugging etc. In this unit students will learn to create a game that will run on a web site.  The game will be written in a language called JavaScript.This will be part of their Final Exam, they will need write a game under exam conditions.

 

They will learn some HTML for the final exam, as they will also need to write a web page under exam conditions.

A 45 minute Automated Assessment which consists of 2 parts.Part 1:- 20 minute practical task to create a program to assess students’ knowledge.
Part 2:-  25 minute theory test of 11 questions, 10 are multiple choice from 12 possible answers and 1 is written and assessed for spelling and grammar.
None EDUCAS Controlled Assessment covering programing in Python.  This will last for 20 hours. Mock Exam, marked as a group, marking each other’s papers and learning where they went wrong. The section is not assessed until next year but will involve Summer Homework covering HTML and JavaScript and use of GreenFoot.

App InventorStudents have already completed the training for this unit in year 10 and have undertaken Unit 1 of 3 (Python).

In this unit they will create a mobile app using app inventor.  Students will need an Android device for this.

 

The theory exam is worth 40% of the final qualification and the rest of the year will focus on that.  They have a text book they should be reading (twice in year 10 and twice more in year 11.  By this point they will have read it 3 times.  This was built into their homework for year 10. They will sit their final exam.

In this unit students will learn how to use Power Point and its features professionally including: - Master Slides, Prevention of other changing the files. Motion Paths, Customising the Ribbon, Setting Timing, Adding Speaker Notes, Adding and Modifying Text, Using pre-set tools, Adding Bullets and Numbering, Inserting files from other applications, inserting images, Resizing graphics, Using proofing tools etc. In this unit students will learn how to create a number of documents for a specific purpose.  Importing files from other software to create graphical reports, changing fonts and sizes, adding colour, indenting paragraphs, In this unit students will learn how to create a spreadsheet.  They will understand formulas such as SUM, MAX, MIN, AVERAGE, COUNT, IF and more.  They will learn how to link sheets together, add macros to automate tasks and create graphs and charts which are purposeful and clearly labelled.

In this unit, students will be required to use Word Processing, Power Point and Spreadsheets together to achieve a task.  They will also need to know a bit about the workings of a computer but not as much as they do in computer science. 

They will undertake a series of worksheets, Gemini and Diagnostic but will not sit the final exam.

Based on the Diagnostic results for Improving Productivity, In this unit, students will have the chance to re-take any previous unit they feel they need to improve on.  If there are no units that need improvements they will take the final exam for Improving Productivity.  For information on these units please refer to the year 10 guide. This is where the final unit, Improving Productivity is taken.
