Technology

Technology is an inspiring, rigorous, and practical subject, and at The Skipton Academy the Technology Curriculum is designed to enable all students to achieve their full potential in this area of study. 

We aim to ensure that all students have the opportunity to 

  • develop the creative, technical, and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world  
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users  
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others 

We will empower all students to: 

  • work independently to problem solve and consider others needs when designing, adapting, or making 
  • select from and use specialist tools, techniques, processes, equipment, and machinery 
  • learn about and make use of a wider and more complex range of materials and components 
  • investigate new and emerging technologies 
  • refine ideas and products, taking into account the views of intended users and other interested groups 

We want to instil in our students the: 

  • ability to communicate as a developer and applicator of technology, both today and in the future 
  • resilience to persevere and complete activities and respond to an ever-changing environment 
  • capacity for creative problem solving that will serve them throughout their lives

We will deliver:

  • At Key Stage 3 students follow three projects in each year, delivering the Technology National curriculum through design and make activities that combine elements of Graphics, Resistant Materials, and Electronics
  • At Key Stage 4 the students can choose to the option of following the OCR Cambridge National in Engineering Design. A qualification that combines a coursework element with formal examination
