School Transport Services

North Yorkshire

bus1

North Yorkshire Council provides free school transport to The Skipton Academy if we are your nearest school* and the walking distance is over 3 miles (or 2 miles if your child is entitled to free school meals).

You do not need to apply for free home to school transport if your child is starting at The Skipton Academy and you have applied for a place through North Yorkshire Council. They will automatically assess your child's eligibility and will send you a pass if you are eligible. School buses currently serve the following communities Carleton, Gargrave, Airton, West & East Marton, Bradley, Eastby, Embsay, Coniston Cold, Bell Busk and Broughton. Further information about the school transport services can be found on the North Yorkshire Council website School transport for reception to year 11 children | North Yorkshire Council Buses serving The Skipton Academy can be found through the following link Bus timetable information | North Yorkshire Council (northyorkstravel.info). This link displays both dedicated school services and public bus services.

There may be some availability to purchase a seat on the school buses for pupils who are not entitled to a free pass. However, this availability will be limited and will be sold on a first come first served basis under the paid travel permit terms and conditions; please contact North Yorkshire County Council directly late March prior to starting at the academy to apply for a seat.

*the nearest suitable school for transport purposes includes schools in neighbouring authorities. If you live near the boundary you might find that the nearest school is outside of North Yorkshire.

Paid for dedicated school buses also serve The Skipton Academy from outside of North Yorkshire. The V43 operated by The Keighley Bus Company (Transdev) travels through Kelbrook, Earby and Thornton-In-Craven. They also operate the V44 which has stops in Salterforth and Barnoldswick. A form to apply for a place on these services can be found on the Trandev website School Bus Bookings - Transdev (transdevbus.co.uk)
