Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

It has been an exciting week of events at the Skipton Academy as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2023. The week has seen a range of activities and speakers that have given students the opportunity to learn more about potential apprenticeship opportunities.

On Monday, Kelly Vincent from Computeamspoke to students about the range of apprenticeship opportunities that are available in the computing industry. Students were able to understand the different roles and paths they could take within this industry, and gain an insight into the skills and qualities they would need to succeed.

Health and Social Care students were also given the chance to work with two nurses and explore the different careers and roles that are available within the NHS and social care. Students were able to apply their learning to several case studies and look at the practicalities of working in this sector.

On Thursday, Yorkshire Water, spoke to students about the range of roles that are available within the water industry. Students were able to learn about the different types of roles, the skills that are needed and the opportunities that are available, as well as gain an understanding of the importance of this sector.

Friday saw Sophie from ITV Studios, talk to students about apprenticeship opportunities in the entertainment industry. She discussed her experience as an apprentice and shared her tips for success. Students were able to gain an insight into the world of entertainment and gain a better understanding of the opportunities that are available.

Throughout the week, Year 7 students had the opportunity to take part in the M&G Enterprise Challenge. This saw them organise a music concert, using a range of skills and applying them to a new challenge. It was a great opportunity for students to develop their enterprise skills, and gain an understanding of the importance of planning and organisation.

National Apprenticeship Week 2023 has been a great success at the Skipton Academy, with a range of events and activities allowing students to gain a better understanding of the range of apprenticeship opportunities that are available. It has been an inspiring week and has certainly encouraged students to think about their futures and consider the different paths they could take.
