TSA Celebrates another great set of results

The Skipton Academy is delighted to report GCSE success today, with many students achieving excellent GSCE and BTEC results despite the unprecedented challenges that the pandemic has posed over the last two years.

Students and staff are celebrating their results today following the first GCSE examinations that have been taken for over two years. These students have endured the new demands of remote and blended learning over their time in key stage 4 and it is a true testament to their resilience and dedication, that they have been able to achieve these results and secure their places in the next steps of their educational journey.

During the lockdowns staff worked tirelessly to ensure that students received the best possible learning and were able to access all remote lessons. This obviously put at great deal of pressure on parents and we would also like to thank them for their support over the last 5 years.

The first ever Grade 9s have been achieved this year at TSA by students sitting formal exams and this is again a true reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by staff and students.

Almost 1 in 3 students will now go on to study academic A Levels in sixth form at local providers, with approximately half of these students securing places at our partner school, Ilkley Grammar School. Other destinations include Craven College, South Craven School, Skipton Girls’ High School, Yorkshire Cricket College and Harrogate Army College, showing the growing breadth of high-quality next step opportunities and choices that TSA students now make.

Richard McManus, Principal said “Huge congratulations to all our students receiving their results today! The past three years of their schooling has been disrupted by the pandemic, but throughout, our staff and students have kept going, and today’s successes show the positive impact that their hard work and determination has had. I would like to thank our staff and parents for their support over these past few years and am really proud of the way that the students have come through this - it’s fantastic to see our students moving onto their chosen next steps and we wish them all the very best as they move on from TSA.”

Helen Williams, CEO of Moorlands Learning Trust added “This is a really pleasing set of results for a cohort of students who have had the most challenging few years. The fact that students have achieved such success, including at the highest levels in a number of subjects for the first time and are now routinely securing their first-choice next steps destinations at Post 16, is a real mark of the high expectations and quality of delivery in place at TSA. This rightly follows a remarkable few years where staff have worked tirelessly to bring about improvements across all areas of the school, despite the incredible additional challenges that the pandemic has brought; thank you to Richard and the whole TSA team! I am absolutely thrilled to have seen so many happy faces as students collected their results this morning and am confident that TSA has given them the foundation to move onto even more success in whatever their chosen next steps.”
