Dales Cup Drives Sporting Success

The Dales Cup has proven to be a tremendous success for The Skipton Academy this year. Now in its second year, the competition has gone from strength to strength, with students winning twice as many events as in the previous year. This achievement is a clear reflection of the dedication of both students and staff and highlights the school’s growing sporting performance.

Looking ahead, the Dales Cup is set to continue into the next academic year, providing even more opportunities for students to compete across a wide variety of sports. The competition offers not just athletic challenges, but also the chance to develop key life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

A highlight of this year’s events was the introduction of Dales Cup Cricket. The Year 7/8 team represented the Academy at Upper Wharfedale Cricket Club, performing strongly against tough opposition and proudly securing third place.

Another key aspect of the programme has been Sports Leadership. Several students took part in primary school cricket festivals, benefitting from training delivered by Yorkshire County Cricket Club. This training, which included the innovative use of technology in leadership, has helped students grow in confidence and responsibility.

Other leaders supported a multi-discipline cycling event as well as two primary school sports days, both hosted on the Academy’s field, demonstrating the positive impact of student leadership across the wider community.
