SAFEGUARDING AT THE SKIPTON ACADEMY

At The Skipton Academy we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of our students. Each student’s welfare is of paramount importance. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who encounters children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.

To support safeguarding TSA is committed to robust safer recruitment practices. In addition, all staff have read and understood the current Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance from the Department of Education.

REPORTING A CONCERN

If you are concerned about any member of our school community, please let us know. You can report a concern that affects you directly or a concern you might have about someone else.

Types of concern you might wish to raise include:

  • Bullying behaviour
  • Community issue
  • Discrimination based on race, disability, sexual orientation, gender, faith or age,
  • Friendship issue
  • Harassment or stalking behaviour
  • Suicidal thoughts, self-harm or deteriorating mental health

This is not an exhaustive list. If something is causing you concern personally or you are concerned for someone else, let us know. We want to help.

Your concern will be sent confidentially to a member of staff who is responsible for concerns, complaints and safeguarding.

 EXTREMISM AND RADICALISATION

All schools have a legal duty to protect young people from the risk of radicalisation, and to safeguard them from being drawn into terrorism. This is known as the "Prevent duty". We achieve this through:

  • PSHE lessons which promote tolerance and respect and teaches about the dangers of extremism
  • Promotion the schools’ core values of Belong, Challenge and Inspire
  • Robust web filtering systems to keep students safe online
  • Support for vulnerable students and clear procedures for referrals
  • Working in partnership with other agencies
  • Appropriate training for staff and governors
