French Exchange Strengthens Cultural Ties

On Wednesday 9th July, The Skipton Academy proudly welcomed a group of students and staff from its twin town in France, Erquinghem-Lys. This special visit, part of an ongoing partnership between the two towns, follows a successful exchange two years ago and was met with great enthusiasm from both schools.

The visiting group included 25 students from various year groups and five staff members. Arriving mid-morning, they were warmly greeted by the school community. Later, each French student was paired with a Skipton Academy student, giving them the chance to socialise, make new friends, and experience British school life by joining lessons.

To further enrich the cultural exchange, Mrs Harrison, Head of Languages, played a key role. Having recently represented the school as a translator at a civic event in Skipton Town Hall, she continued her efforts to strengthen the partnership. Her involvement was central to creating the warm and welcoming atmosphere that defined the day.

The experience was rounded off with a lunch provided by the Rotary Club, whose generosity was sincerely appreciated by all.

This exchange offered both British and French students a valuable opportunity to connect, share experiences, and immerse themselves in one another’s culture and language. The day was not just about lessons and sightseeing, but about fostering genuine friendship and understanding across borders.

The Skipton Academy looks forward to continuing this valued partnership in the future, creating even more opportunities for students to learn, grow, and build lasting international connections.
