Fundraising: British Heart Foundation

December seems a distant memory now but we just want to thank everybody who donated to the British Heart Foundation Elf Kick- we raised £311.50.

During registration, students participated in the British Heart Foundation's Elf Kick. Each day students had a new activity to complete. Each session was led by students in their tutor group. A great way to prepare students for the day ahead and a wonderful way to promote mental well-being.

Thank you.

This charity is extremely close to the hearts of many at The Skipton Academy. As a school, we aim to raise money for the British Heart Foundation every year. This is in memory of a colleague, teacher and friend of the school, Mrs Catherine White.

Catherine White was head of Science at the Academy and sadly passed away after a complication that arose after having heart surgery in 2015. White block, the Science block was named in her honour. She had a three-year-old son when she passed away.

Mrs White loved working at this school. She loved teaching Science. In this school, she was able to help students make the most of their abilities. She wanted all students to make the most of their abilities, succeed in their own way and have a love for learning.

Every year her husband donates a prize of £500 to the student who makes the most of their ability., takes the opportunities they are given and someone who doesn't give up when faced with a challenge. This is because this is what Catherine felt most passionate about, students reaching their full potential.

There is a plaque on the front of White Block celebrating her life.
