Hamilton Hits The Stage
The Performing Arts Department has had an inspiring and activity-filled term, bringing together a wide array of student creativity and passion.
On March 4th, 49 students and four staff members were fortunate to attend a special EDUHAM performance of Hamilton in Bradford. As part of the musical’s UK and Ireland tour, this performance left a lasting impression. Students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and were deeply moved by the energy and storytelling on stage. A complimentary programme and interval ice cream made the experience even more memorable.
Meanwhile, The Performing Arts Club continues to thrive as a hub of student creativity. This year, the group has taken on the ambitious project of writing and performing an original play, Harry Potter: The Prophecy. With performances scheduled for the end of the Summer Term, anticipation is building. Students are not only acting but also contributing to the script, stage direction, and choreography—showcasing remarkable dedication and teamwork.
Another exciting opportunity involves 20 students rehearsing for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) Playmaking Festival. Collaborating with other Bradford cluster schools, the students are preparing a dynamic adaptation of King Lear, set to be performed at St. George’s Hall in June. The RSC partnership has elevated student exposure to professional performance standards and nurtured confidence and expressive skills.
Looking ahead, our school has been selected to stage Matilda the Musical Jr this autumn, further strengthening our relationship with the RSC. Auditions have revealed a strong pool of talent, with singing rehearsals already in progress and choreography sessions starting after Easter. Students interested in backstage roles—costume, lighting, set design—are encouraged to get involved. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic year for performing arts at The Skipton Academy.
