Record Transition Welcomes New Students

This July, The Skipton Academy proudly welcomed its largest ever Year 6 intake for two days of exciting transition activities. The event marked the beginning of a new chapter for the incoming students, helping them feel at home before officially starting in September.

The transition days were designed to ease nerves, build confidence, and strengthen relationships. Students spent time with their new form groups and tutors, getting to know one another through a variety of fun and engaging activities.

A highlight was the Bushcraft Day, where pupils took part in outdoor challenges that encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience. From fire lighting and shelter building to group games, every activity was focused on building trust and forming friendships that will last throughout their time at the Academy.

Teachers and support staff were on hand throughout, ensuring that every student felt supported and reassured about their move to secondary school. The atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive, with students showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and kindness as they embraced the challenges and opportunities of the two days.

For many, the transition days offered their first chance to step into the Academy as part of the school community. By the end, smiles, laughter, and new friendships were clear signs that the new Year 7s are ready for a confident and successful start in September.

Head of Year, Miss Brown commented:
“We are delighted to welcome our largest ever Year 6 cohort. The transition days have shown us how resilient, enthusiastic, and friendly this group is. We are excited to see them continue their journey at The Skipton Academy.”

The 2025/26 academic year promises to be an exciting one, with the newest members of the Academy community already showing that they are ready to embrace the values of belong, challenge and inspire.
