Exam Success at The Skipton Academy
After a turbulent few months for our Year 11 students we are delighted that they have received the best GCSE results in the history of The Skipton Academy. At a time of great stress for students and their families we feel a sense of relief and pride that they have been awarded greatly improved results in a large range of subjects and that the school is making better progress than ever.
The number of students achieving a Grade 9- 4 in English and Maths has increased to 60% the highest the school has ever achieved. There have also been significant increases in achievement in several subjects. In English Literature there was a 20% increase compared to last year in the number of students achieving Grades 9-4. This was exceeded in French with a 25% increase in Grades 9-4 and Geography where 9-4 Grades improved by over 30%.
These results have enabled our students to progress to their chosen destination to continue their studies, with a significant increase in the numbers taking up places to study A levels with our partners in Moorlands Learning Trust, Ilkley Grammar School and at South Craven School among others.
Overall our students have done fantastically well and it is a testament to their hard work over the last five years at The Skipton Academy. It is also one of the first tangible benefits of joining Moorlands Learning Trust as we have been able to support our staff and students this year with outstanding support from Ilkley Grammar School which has been wonderful.
The future of The Skipton Academy looks brighter than ever as we now welcome the biggest number of Year 7 students for many years in September and work has just begun on the £3 million pound renovation work at the school.
I would like to thank the families of all our Year 11 students who have been fantastically supportive and wish all of our fabulous Year 11 students all the best for their futures.
