The Skipton Academy Hosts Inspiring Annual Career Day

The Skipton Academy proudly hosted its annual Career Day this week, bringing together an impressive range of local and national employers, training providers, and educators. Throughout the day, students from all year groups explored a wealth of opportunities and engaged with representatives who offered insight into the skills and qualities needed in a wide variety of professions. The bustling careers fair created a vibrant atmosphere as students asked questions, gathered resources, and discovered more about pathways that could shape their futures.

Alongside the whole‑school engagement with the careers fair, each year group participated in a tailored programme designed to support their stage in school and help broaden their understanding of possible next steps. Year 7 students focused on public services and the judicial sectors, learning about the vital roles of the police, fire service, and courts, and how these organisations contribute to the safety and wellbeing of communities. Year 8 took part in an energetic Enterprise Day, stepping into the world of business and entrepreneurship by collaborating on a creative challenge of designing their own music festival which required teamwork, planning, and problem‑solving.

For Year 9, the day supported an important milestone as students explored GCSE Options Taster sessions. This allowed them to gain first-hand experience of different subjects, meet specialist teachers, and gather key information to help them make informed decisions about the courses they will choose next year. Year 10 took part in a Finance Day, where they developed essential life skills such as budgeting, financial planning, and understanding the responsibilities of employment, knowledge that will benefit them both in school and beyond. Meanwhile, Year 11 students were offered targeted support ahead of their upcoming exams by engaging in focused revision sessions in their core subjects, as well as a hands‑on Design Technology making day that allowed them to apply practical skills in a creative and purposeful way.

Jibran Khalil, Senior Assistant Principal, said “Career Day is one of the highlights of our school calendar, and I’m incredibly proud of what our students achieved. Their enthusiasm, maturity, and willingness to engage meaningfully with every visitor truly stood out. We are fortunate to have such supportive employers and providers who give their time to inspire our young people, and the positive feedback we received reinforces just how valuable these experiences are. Seeing our students explore new ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and represent The Skipton Academy so well is exactly why events like this matter.”

The Academy extended its sincere thanks to all organisations and individuals who contributed their time and expertise to make the Career Day a success, supporting and inspiring the next generation of professionals, innovators, and leaders.
