The Skipton Academy has been recognised for delivering high-quality computing education to young people - developing their digital skills, nurturing their curiosity, and preparing them for a rapidly changing technological future.

The Skipton Academy has achieved the national Computing Quality Mark, awarded by the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE). This prestigious recognition celebrates excellence in computing education and acknowledges the school’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of digitally capable and creative thinkers.

The NCCE, funded by the DfE, supports schools nationwide to develop world-class computing education through training, curriculum resources and national standards.

The award follows a rigorous evaluation through the Computing Quality Framework (CQF), in which The Skipton Academy demonstrated exceptional provision across seven key areas:

  • Leadership and Vision
  • Curriculum and Qualifications
  • Teaching, Learning and Assessment
  • Staff Development
  • Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and SEND
  • Careers Education
  • Impact on Outcomes

As the first school in the Craven area to achieve the Computing Quality Mark, The Skipton Academy has set a new benchmark for computing education locally, reflecting its commitment to ensuring every student can thrive in a digital world.

Principal, Mr Cook, said:

“We are immensely proud to receive this national recognition from the NCCE. The award is a testament to the passion and expertise of our computing team, whose innovative teaching ensures students are not only digitally literate, but also inspired by the creative possibilities technology brings. To be the first school in Craven to achieve this is an incredible achievement and a reflection of our ethos to Belong, Challenge and Inspire.”

Senior Assistant Principal, Mr Khalil, added:

“Our aim has been to create a computing curriculum that excites, challenges and empowers our students. From coding to creative media and cybersecurity, students at TSA are developing the digital confidence and transferable skills that will prepare them for a wide range of future careers. We’re thrilled that the NCCE has recognised the quality of our provision and the hard work of both staff and students.”

Through its engaging, challenging yet inclusive curriculum, The Skipton Academy continues to demonstrate that computing is not just a subject - it’s a life skill that opens doors to innovation, creativity and opportunity.
