The Skipton Academy is proud to announce that it has once again been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, recognising the academy’s long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability and student-led eco initiatives.

This national award celebrates schools that demonstrate excellence in environmental action and education. The Skipton Academy has now achieved the Green Flag status on several occasions, reflecting years of dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable school community.

Students and staff have worked collaboratively on a wide range of projects, from reducing waste and improving recycling across the site to developing biodiversity areas and promoting sustainable travel. The Geography Club, formerly Eco Club, made up of enthusiastic students from a range of year groups, has played a leading role in driving these initiatives, inspiring the wider school community to take meaningful action on climate and sustainability.

Assistant Principal, Mr Fryer, said:

“We are delighted to once again receive the Green Flag Award. This is a testament to the passion, teamwork and determination of our students and staff who continue to make environmental awareness an integral part of life at The Skipton Academy. A big thank you must be extended to Miss Mashiter and Miss Smith who worked to support students on this award. This award shows how our students are shaping a more responsible and environmentally conscious future.”

The award is part of the international Eco-Schools programme, which encourages young people to engage with environmental issues through real-world action. The Skipton Academy’s continued success reflects its sustained efforts to embed eco-conscious values within the curriculum, daily routines and wider community partnerships.

This latest recognition highlights the academy’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high environmental standards - and to inspiring the next generation to care for the planet.
