Students at The Skipton Academy continue to work for the good of the environment

Year 7 students were hard at work with Craven District Council planting hundreds of trees in the schools impressive grounds. The students who are part of the Academies Eco Club which last year became one of only two schools in North Yorkshire to achieve the Green Flag award for their work on Environmental issues, is working with the council who are planting trees all over the district.

Mr Fryer who leads the Eco Club at The Skipton Academy said ‘It is brilliant that the Eco Club continues to have opportunities to work with other organisations to improve the school grounds and also help to increase the biodiversity and sustainability of the local area. Such events allow students to put into practice what they are learning in lessons and develop valuable life skills. This project is part of a wider theme that the Eco Club is currently working on to improve the sustainability of the school’.

Mr Cook Deputy Principal said “It’s impressive that after gaining the highest possible award last year that the students are still committed to doing even more. Many students in schools work hard to raise awareness but what impresses me is that our students will put in the hard work to actually improve the environment not just by planting trees but by things like the numerous litter picks we do in Aireville Park.”
