Young Writers Sweep the Board

It was a proud moment for The Skipton Academy when three of its students were announced as winners of the Young Writers Competition. The competition's theme this year was Christmas in the trenches during war, and the students were tasked with writing a piece of creative writing which captured the experience of Christmas in the trenches.

The three students who won were Isabelle Docherty, Colin Boukemach and Paige Allport. They each wrote powerful pieces of creative writing which explored the feelings and experiences of soldiers during this difficult time. The pieces were full of emotion, with each student conveying the reality of war and the sorrow of being away from home at Christmas.

The competition was judged by a panel of experienced writers and academics who were incredibly impressed by the quality of the writing produced by the students. They praised the students for their maturity and insight in conveying the impact of war on the men who were fighting and their families back home.

The students were praised for their hard work and dedication to the competition, and their efforts were rewarded with a certificate and a cash prize.

Mike Thornett, from The Skipton Rotary Club commented may I offer my congratulations to the winners of the Skipton Young Writer Competition. The event is organized by Skipton Rotary and takes place every year, forming part of Rotary International's youth programme. Other events under this programme include young speaker, photographer, artist and chef, as well as a technology tournament.

The winner's essay in our area, by Isabelle Docherty, has now been entered into the Regional competition covering the whole of Yorkshire and parts of Lincolnshire.
