During the first week of the Autumn Term, Year 7 students from The Skipton Academy visited Nell Bank Outdoor Education Centre as part of their transition to secondary school. The visit, which has become an important part of welcoming students into the academy community, provided valuable opportunities for students to build friendships, develop confidence and create lasting memories with their new peers.

The two-day programme, held across the first week of term, saw students take part in a range of outdoor challenges and team-building activities designed to encourage communication, resilience and collaboration. Away from the classroom, students worked together to overcome obstacles, support one another and strengthen relationships that will help them thrive throughout their secondary school journey.

Staff were delighted to see students embracing every opportunity on offer, with many stepping outside their comfort zones and demonstrating the courage, determination and teamwork that are central to life at The Skipton Academy.

The experience also played an important role in supporting students' transition from primary to secondary education. By spending time together in a different environment, students were able to settle quickly into academy life, form new friendships and develop a strong sense of belonging within their year group.

The academy received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the Nell Bank team, who praised the enthusiasm, conduct and participation of students throughout the visit. Providers commented on the positive attitudes displayed by students and the way they supported one another during activities, reflecting the academy's values and high expectations.

As students return to the classroom, they do so with new friendships, greater confidence and a strong foundation for a successful and enjoyable first year at The Skipton Academy.
