Pre-Loved Uniform

We are proud of our standards for school uniforms. This is the result of a high degree of cooperation between parents/carers, students and the school. We are firm believers in a school uniform that is properly and consistently worn. We believe that this helps young people to develop real pride in themselves and their school and to look smart helps them to think smart too. Uniform helps students to feel part of our community, and makes the point that there is no discrimination.

We know that secondary school can be expensive for our families, most considerably when purchasing uniform items. We have continued to review our uniform offer and regularly meet with suppliers to ensure our parents/carers are getting value for money. However, we do recognise that a number of uniform items need to be replaced and would like to build capacity to be able to offer a pre-loved uniform service to families, who are most in need.

The government are committed to ensuring that school uniform costs are reasonable and that parents get the best value for money. As a school, we have always kept our branded uniform items to a minimum and provided suggestions of where non-branded items can be purchased, which is not an exclusive list of shops and includes supermarkets. We also review the cost and the quality of the items provided by the uniform shop, to ensure they are value for money and sourced responsibly and ethically.

To support our families, further, we would like to make available, second-hand uniforms, which will not only help support families in need but also help towards achieving net zero carbon emissions. In order to make this possible we are requesting donations of pre-loved uniform, if items have been outgrown. These can include blazers, shirts, skirts, trousers, school jumpers, PE polo and the PE hooded top. If items need a small amount of repair, we would welcome these items, in order to review whether we could return them to a wearable standard.

All donations can be made by dropping off the items in a suitable carrier bag to either the reception in during school hours or Discount Sports Skipton. With your support, we could support our families who are most in need and at the same time contribute towards saving our planet. We ask for the uniform to be laundered before being dropped off, please. Thank you for your continued support.

Parents wishing to make use of this service are asked to contact uniform@theskiptonacademy.co.uk. This is a confidential service, where students or parents can request particular items. If we have the requested item we will arrange a collection time with the parent or child.

Thank you to Discount Sports Skipton for offering to host a drop-off point for uniform items and Whiterose Laundry for laundering all uniform
